All About Phenibut
(and more...)

If you've arrived from Google and just want to know what the highest-quality Phenibut is-

About Our Recommendation
(updated November 5th 2014)

I recommend Happy Hippo because all of their stuff is REALLY GOOD, Phenibut included.

How do I know?

It's my own label and we test every batch.

I've used Phenibut on and off for over a decade.

I found the parent source for the highest-quality, most consistent Phenibut I tried and bought a ton of it so it's affordable for you guys.

A 50g or 100g bag of Phenibut should last you SEVERAL months if you are taking it as directed.
(Our Phenibut forum Phenibut has plenty of reviews of the exact stuff that Hippo sells)

In this Review, I will tell you-

  • How it works
  • What Phenibut ‘feels’ like
  • EXACTLY what to expect
  • How to use it
  • My personal experience
  • Comparisons to other stuff I’ve tried
  • …and more

General Information

Phenibut For Social FreedomPhenibut is a legal compound that is sold in most counties as a dietary supplement. It is among several compounds that I recommend (and have used) to combat anxiety. I do not have general anxiety or social anxiety, I merely use Phenibut as a “performance enhancer,” it is it not meant to treat any condition.

Phenibut can be purchased on the Internet, at health food stores and in combination with other dietary supplements in the United States. In Russia, Phenbut is available by prescription only and is used to treat general anxiety, social anxiety, depression and to improve quality of sleep.

The source recommended in this Phenibut review is EXACT kind that that Scotty and I use. I suggest using that source rather than risking getting a bunk batch.

If you've searched for other Phenibut reviews, you'll find a lot of people that say it's really good and other people that didn't get much out it. Chances are, the people that say it "didn't work," in their Phenibut review, either didn't use it correctly or got a bunk source. Real Phenibut works, underdosed or fake Phenibut doesn't.

How Phenibut Works

Phenibut (beta-phenyl-gamma-aminobutyric acid) is a derivative of GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid). Unlike GABA, however, Phenibut can easily pass through the blood-brain barrier and bind to the GABA receptors in the brain. Compounds that bind to GABA receptors (alcohol, benzodiazepines) can significantly reduce anxiety, produce moderate levels of euphoria and induce sleep in higher doses. Any compounds that tickle the GABA receptors, however, usually produce a fast tolerance. In short, Phenibut binds to the GABA receptors in your brain (similar to alcohol and prescription anti-anxiety compounds).

There are several benefits to Phenibut, including but not limited to- stress relief, anxiety relief, improved cognitive function, increased memory retention, sense of well-being and improved sleep quality. Phenibut mimics GABA that is endogenously produced (produced within the body), binding to GABA-B receptors in the brain and to some extent GABA-A receptors. Phenibut brings on a sense of relaxation and improves cognitive ability. Many users have found that this relaxing effect of Phenibut makes it easier to fall asleep and that the quality if sleep is improved as well. Phenibut also has the ability to stimulate dopamine receptors that may contribute to its mood boosting benefits.

Phenibut supposedly has a half-life of about 5 hours. How long it works for can vary significantly though. Some users find the effects of Phenibut to be short-lasting while others still experience the effects of Phenibut as long 24 hours after taking a dose. How long Phenibut lasts is dependent upon several things- the time since your last meal, your current state, the environment you are in and how much caffeine (or other stimulant) that you have consumed.

One downside of Phenibut is that tolerance is quite common and appears to develop fairly quickly. To maintain effectiveness, Phenibut should be used only on occasion or cycled. As directed, you can use Phenibut 5 days a week, so long as you take 2 days off. Another suggested method is cycling Phenibut – 2 weeks ON and 2 weeks OFF. I have not tried that protocol however.

What Does Phenibut “Feel” Like?

In my personal experience, these are some of the noticeable effects that I feel-

  • The best description of a good Phenibut experience is “extreme calmness”
  • A moderate to drastic reduction in anxiety - general and social
  • A moderate to drastic increase in pro social behavior and the desire to be social
  • A moderate to pronounced “sense of well-being”
  • A slight to moderate euphoria; high levels of euphoria can be achieved sometimes
  • Music sounds amazing, somewhat like MDMA
  • Slight to drastic increase in alertness, this is also due to stimulants
  • Moderate increase in cognitive processes (you think faster)
  • Dilated pupils from taking 3000mg+ in a 24/hr period
  • Slightly improved memory retention
  • Increased sexual performance (low doses)
  • Unlike benzodiazepines, Phenibut enhances instead of killing your motivation

What Should I Expect?keep-calm-and-eat-cupcakes

If you take Phenibut as directed (or the suggested dosing schedule at the bottom of this Phenibut review), on an empty stomach, you should expect some degree (or a lot) of effects that I mentioned just above.

Phenibut, when not abused, is a very 'clean' compound. There are no jitters, crash, discoordination or other annoying side effects.

At its best, Phenibut will feel like a small to moderate dose of MDMA or GHB.
At its worst, Phenibut won't do anything at all (mainly true if you eat food with it or get a BUNK/FAKE source)

As with a lot of dietary supplements that produce cognitive effects or other recreational compounds, it may require a bit of experimentation. You will have to do some trial and error.

What Should I Expect from Phenibut?

As you [should] know, anything that I recommend on, I use, I believe in and I have done my homework on.

Admittedly, I give recommendations that I KNOW will reflect positively upon our community.

The vast majority will be pleased with this compound, especially if you try the pure Phenibut that we recommend.

At the same time, I also want to put in perspective what your expectations should realistically be and hopefully over-deliver for you. Not every recommendation will absolutely BLOW your mind. All of them, I feel, will be worth your time and money.

Here’s the deal on Phenibut-

It will work pretty well for most people. Some people, a minority, might not like it. It is inexpensive, very low on side effects, so I believe it’s worth a try. You have a lot to gain and very little to lose.

With that said, Phenibut is no joke.

It IS NOT like some bullshit hippy “herbal lemongrass remedy” that promises to “totally kill your anxiety, naturally!”

Phenibut is illegal in some countries because it is fairly powerful compound (and governments don’t want people taking anything that works beside antidepressants that make pharmaceutical companies rich). Like I said, at it’s very best (combine with a stimulant), it can SOMETIMES reasonably mimic the effects of decent quality GHB, MDMA and some other powerful anti-anxiety drugs. Don't underestimate it just because it is a legal dietary supplement. At the same time, its not a hardcore drug.

When you get it, follow the dosing schedule listed below and your experience should go as I outlined in this Phenibut review. Unlike using the “Bathmate,” where you just attach it to your dick and stand there smiling, using Phenibut isn’t so black or white. In order to get the MAXIMUM benefits, you will have to figure out how it best works for you, your timing schedule, your diet with it and so forth. I feel it is definitely worth a try, otherwise I wouldn’t be recommending it. I’ve had A LOT of awesome nights with (not necessarily because of) it.

I wish I could simply say “Do THIS… And THIS will happen,” but you’ll have to see what works best for you on this one. I think that you'll find the information in this Phenibut review to be accurate.

If a guy as an average amount of anxiety, he can be nearly completely socially-free on Phenibut. It can be THAT good. For most guys it will be equal to or better than alcohol. It may require some trial and error to find what dose and protocol works best for you.

Good Looking Loser's Experience With Phenibut

Blue GLL LogoI think Phenibut is a very good compound.

It is inexpensive, legal and effective for both day and night “game”.

I have slept at least 40+ girls when I have at least some Phenibut in my system. It seems to make me want to dance.

Girls like it too.
Ladies- take it before you have sex or masturbate- it will lead to a CRAZY ORGASM. Several orgasms.

For more information about how Phenibut feels in the bedroom, check out this post-

These days, I take it as very low doses just to take the ‘edge’ off, I don’t use it for sleep since you have to take a large dose. I don't use it too often as a performance enhancing pro-social drug too often. All the stuff I mentioned before is part of my experience.

Comparisons to Other Stuff I’ve Tried

Before I offer comparisons, it should be noted that Phenibut is a legal compound that is sold as a dietary supplement. It is still fairly powerful, but it’s not fair to compare it to hardcore drugs such as cocaine or speed. I know I mentioned that already, but it's important that we keep that in perspective and have a frame of reference for these comparisons.

I feel [a good experience] on Phenibut is similar to the combination of a moderate amount of alcohol with a little marijuana without the discoordination or cognitive impairment. I like it better than both. But I don't really like alcohol or marijuana that much. It combines very well with opoids such as tramadol and Kratom. If you take any prescription drugs with Phenibut, make sure you have a legitimate prescription and only use under your doctor’s care.

While not as strong as other hardcore drugs, Phenibut offers several benefits- it’s inexpensive, it works, it has low potential for abuse and it doesn’t impair you.

How To Properly Take Phenibut
(this matters a lot!)

This dosing schedule follows how several manufacturers say to take it.

Consult your doctor if you feel it necessary.

When you wake up in the morning, on a COMPLETELY empty stomach take 1000mg (1 gram) of Phenibut. If you are using the capsules that will be 2 pills. Take Phenibut with water or another drink that does not have calories (tea). Take 1500mg (1.5grams) of Phenibut if you weigh over 210lbs.

I highly recommend combining it with a stimulant. 80-160mg of caffeine will work. A cup of coffee (yuck) is ~106mg. Your average soda is 55mg (Mt. Dew/Diet Mt. Dew/Dr. Pepper/Diet Dr. Pepper is ~70mg). So that would be 2 diet sodas or 1 cup of coffee, 1 energy drink would sure as hell be enough too.

Harder stimulants like ADDeral (requires Rx), Ephedrine, 1,3 dimethylamylamine will be even better. It's not a great idea to make a habit of taking those. Consider also that stronger stimulants can cause temporary erectile dysfunction since they constrict blood vessels to achieve their intended effects

Don't worry you WON'T get caffeine, stimulant jitters or elevated anxiety since the Phenibut will totally KILL them.

popular energy drinks

Here is a list of caffeinated beverages-

About 45 minutes after taking your first Phenibut dose, eat some food.

At about 90 minutes to 2 hours after your Phenibut dose, evaluate how you feel. Phenibut is weird sometimes; it may take 5 hours to even feel it. It usually produces noticeable effects in about 2 hours or sooner.

Music sounds incredible from taking Phenibut. If you honestly feel NOTHING after 2 hours take 500mg more (if you took 1500mg, 3pills prior) or 1000mg (if you took 1000mg, 2pills prior).

This will make you feel [nearly] completely anxiety free so long as you don't have extreme clinical anxiety/depression or neurotransmitter deficiencies.

5 Hours AFTER your first dose, re-evaluate how you feel (and based on your plans for the rest of the day, night) consider taking 500-1000mg (1 - 2 pills) more.

You shouldn't exceed 8 total capsules (4000mg) in a 24-hour period, its not necessary anyway. The 3000-4000mg dosage AT ONCE is for SLEEP. You need a BIG dose to induce sleep. It will knock you out like GHB [can do]. The sleep is incredible, but it may 'hang-over' until the next day. If you take smaller doses, there shouldn't be a 'hang-over,' there may be an 'afterglow' which feels awesome.

Here is a short version of the dosing schedule-

  • Wake up- take 2 or 3 capsules
  • +2 hours (after your first dose)- consider taking 1 or 2 more
  • +5 hours later- consider taking 1 or 2 more

Can I Combine Phenibut With Alcohol?

If you do, don’t drive.

A lot of guys take Phenibut and drink alcohol. Since I don't really drink alcohol too often, I only have a handful of experiences with the combination.

Most guys agree that (from taking Phenibut) 1 drink feels like 3 drinks... and 3 drinks feels like 7 or 8 drinks. This is especially true if you are on an empty stomach. I don't recommend drinking too much alcohol. In my opinion, for me (for whatever reason) combining alcohol with other compounds fucks up my buzz, makes it less fun. I don't usually combine stuff with alcohol. That's just me though, others seems to have better success.

Is There Potential for Addiction or Dependency?

Keep in mind that- there is potential for addiction and dependency with EVERY psychoactive compound.

Lets keep this in perspective.

This includes better-known compounds such as marijuana and alcohol. Some people get addicted to alcohol and weed. I absolutely DO NOT think that the potential for addiction and dependency with Phenibut is any higher than alcohol or marijuana. It is certainly less than hardcore drugs such as heroin, cocaine, MDMA and methamphetamine.

Still, there are 2 reasons to not take Phenibut everyday or more than 3-4 times a week.

  1. Tolerance seems to build SUPER fast, people don't really know why. My theory is that, in general, your brain easily recognizes ALL compounds that work on the GABA (especially GABA-b) receptors and adjusts by producing new receptors (that need to up-regulate later), you need to take more to achieve similar effects (valium, xanax, all benzos that work on the GABA sites) are all this way too. If you take it 1-3 days a week with 4 days in between, you'll be completely fine. There's no hangover from Phenibut. In fact, most people experience the Phenibut “afterglow” and feel great the following day (the compound is still active).
  2. As mentioned, there are some potential for addiction and dependency. The potential is low however.

  • This is a fantastic resource and absolutely spot-on.

Chris, do you still ever use phenibut or just kratom? Do you think there's any reason to use phenibut instead?

  • Phenibut is the better "party"/always pro-social compound in my opinion, Kratom is more of a productive/sense of well-being compound, if that makes sense

Hey Chris, I have a question, maybe this was addressed but I looked for a fair amount of time and didn't see it.

I'm currently taking an ephedrine/caffeine stack, 3x a day for weight loss purposes. I was wondering if you think it would be okay to use phenibut with an EC stack, or if that ruins the phenibut buzz or is potentially dangerous or something. I'd be taking phenibut in the morning with my first dose of EC.

Opioids need not be synthetic. Any drug that acts on the opioid receptors, as the chief constituents of kratom do, are opioids. The term for a 'synthetic opioid' is, intuitively, 'synthetic opioid'.

Confusion often arises from the term opiate, which refers to opioids found naturally within opium poppies, like codein and morphine.

I've only recently begun using phenibut. I concur with GLL and the below posters; it's effective. I've used harder drugs like LSD, but never the feel-good kind like coke or heroin. That said, phenibut, is strong. Take it, enjoy it, but be f-ing careful, guys.

As GLL says, the diminishing returns don't make it a good daily drug. The two-weeks-on, two-weeks-off approach strikes me as a bad idea. I wouldn't use it for two weeks. After four days, I've noticed it's effectiveness decline. Afterwards, while allowing for de-habituation, I've missed it's absence. It's clearly an addictive substance. Don't allow it's OTC status fool you, phenibut is not kava kava, it's a drug that will likely be Scheduled once it pops up on the American press' radar.

Take it on an empty stomach. In the mornings, I'm too undisciplined to postpone breakfast. I take 6-900 mg's, chase it with caffeine, then prepare a high-protein, high-fat breakfast with a low-calorie fiber. I enjoy buttered coffee (look it up) to compliment a protein shake. I find this combination doesn't interrupt phenibut's onset too much. Still, delay your calories as long as possible following dosage--it'll help.

This drug is too good, I believe, to be used (wasted) as a sleep aid. Take melatonin. Use phenibut while you're conscious. Enjoy it.

Le me be 100% clear, guys. If you drink while this is in your system, you're playing with fire. I made the mistake of combining it with a 12 oz. of red wine. The subsequent "spins" put me face down for an hour. Maybe, maybe, have a beer then wait a while. You may find it's enough--or too much.

Keep in mind, this a Soviet-designed drug, poorly studied, and poorly understood. I'm happy to roll the dice, because I really like it, and I keep track of my urine color (kidneys, liver) and general health. Still, it's a gamble. So are lot's of FDA "approved" meds, too. Remember Vioxx (sp?) the miracle anti-inflammatory removed from shelves a few years back? It's attributed to 10's of thousands of deaths. It I remember correctly, Ephedra (which grows all over the Arid West, by the way) killed two people after they took too much, then worked out. I believe, in both instances, the dead had existing heart conditions. How many people die from routine meds every year? The difference is Ephedra, and phenibut for that matter, is open source, un-patented. Low-profit margins directly competing with highly-profitable, patented medications.

That's my soap-box caveat concerning phenibut's un-regulated status. Just because it's un-studied, and un-approved doesn't make me worry any more than I would about a drug prescribed by my physician. My doctor gave me multiple months of Vioxx in 2005.

Still: be careful and resist the powerful temptation to use it too much, and allow de-habituation intervals. If you need more than 1,000 mg's to feel it, take a a few days.

Hi, I have been following GLL for a while and was intrigued by this topic enough to order some Phinibut. I have also done a lot of reading and it seems pretty obvious that this stuff can be NASTY if abused. The horror stories usually amount to taking way too much and too often. That being said I am still not clear on a safe schedule, I see above the waking up and taking 1 gram thing. But I forgot how to smart so would appreciate somebody explaining it a little more clearly for my healths sake, i.e.

Mondy morning at 7:00 AM I take my first ever in life dose. Later that day I take a little more. Ok I got that. But what happens Tuesday, Wed, Thursday, etc? I am inclined to believe its something like another dose on Tuesday and no more for at least week. Is that correct?

    Like 0 Short URL:
  • Sure, don't take Phenibut more than 3 days a week and you'll be fine.

The horror stories are from misuse, just like any compound.

Thanks for this write up, and all the great info on your site. Had a great first experience with the HH Phenibut last weekend (while drinking heavily).

Want to know your thoughts about using Kratom and Phenibut on the same day. i.e. Kratom during the day and Phenibut at night to go out and party. Don't want the effects of one to cancel out or diminish the other. Any help here?? Thanks.

You really need to fix your article where you put Kratom and tramadol into the opiod category. Opiod's are SYNTHETIC opiates. Kratom is a PLANT, and is NOT an synthetic opiod. It really has no place being in the same category.

    It should not say that.
